Shirley Pinder has created a unique collection that is both luxurious and practical: an eclectic range of contemporary scarves and wraps with a fierce independence drawing inspiration from both antique beauty and modern living.
Shirley Pinder graduated from The Scottish College of Textiles in 1996 after having won The Wool Record Award in her final year for innovative woven designs.
Encouraged by this success she set up her own company designing scarves. From one customer in 1996 the company has expanded rapidly and under the Shirley Pinder label sells to about three hundred retail outlets in the UK and worldwide. Major stockists include Fortnum and Mason in London, Daisy in Munich, Galerie Lafayette in Berlin, Boboli in Vancouver and Agata Blu in Italy. In addition she has designed exclusive collections for major high street retailers selling under their own label.
The Royal Academy in London regularly commissions Shirley Pinder to design exclusive collections and she has created scarves to accompany major exhibitions of both Munch and Vuillard. Shirley has also collaborated with the Scottish artist Barbara Rae RA in designing a scarf inspired by her paintings. This is currently selling at The Royal Academy.
For the last six years Shirley Pinder has designed collections of scarves for major retailers in the UK.
At the opening of newly refurbished Kelvingrove Gallery the Queen was presented with a scarf from the Shirley Pinder tartan collection!
Shirley Pinder was brought up in Tobermory on the Island of Mull where her father was a handweaver. She now lives and works in Melrose in the Scottish Borders. The Border countryside and its amazing textile heritage are a constant source of inspiration to her. She travels widely and this is reflected in her vibrant colour palette and her love of sensual yarns.
